More of my thoughts for you to consider that came to mind
during the food distribution. We started handing the food out to fathers, mothers
and pregnant mothers that came through the line. I smiled and said bless you to
each one of them. I really hoped that I could get the children to smile. Most
of them did. I hoped that this day would be just one day they could look back
on that some people from the United States actually cared enough about them to
travel down to bless them with some food to eat. I saw one child wearing a
t-shirt that said, “
After looking at their living quarters, it was clear that
the only thing they had was each other, Father God and his beloved son Jesus our
Lord and Savior. I wondered how much we spent on the food that we passed out. I
later learned it was about $865 dollars. Then, I thought it would be great to
double the amount of food we passed out. I then wondered what I could do to
make it happen. What we did for these families was to provide about $2.00 per
day in food for each of these 258 families. Think about this, I have in the
past before this trip usually spent about $2.00 every two days buying myself
cans soda pop. Consider this if we set aside some of our soda pop money so some
families could be fed in place of us drinking a can of soda. Also, think about
these people have likely been praying for more food to be provided. God
answered by sending our team of missionaries from

Let me move on to Wednesday’s mission. It was planned for us to work on laying block on the dormitory. We ate breakfast the learned that the water pump was not pumping water. The storage tank only had 150 gallons of water in it and that would not be enough to mix mortar, shower and cook, so Pastor Steve asked us if we would go work on the roof of the church again. So back to Fabens we went. We were going to finish the other half of the roof that we did not start on Monday. While we were working in Fabens, one of the staff would work on getting the water going again. This has happened before when something goes wrong with the water being pumped out from the city, the pump has to be re-primed to get it back going again. After another day of hard work by the mission team and Pastor Steve, we completed the other half of the roof over 22,000 square feet including adding the roof ridge cap.
Now, we will move on to Thursday’s activity – lay concrete block for interior walls on the second floor.
