We arrived in front of the church that had a fence
surrounding the grounds just like people’s homes. It was explained that the
people standing by the fence did not go to church to get an admission pass to
the food distribution line. The fence was opened and our vans drove into the
sand parking lot. The lot was big enough for maybe 6 vehicles. The fence was
closed behind the vans. There was a church service going on inside the church
building built from 2 x 4s and plywood. I know as most do the church building
is not the church. The building is a place to worship. The people who worship
are the church.

I took this picture of the kids standing by the
outside of the church by the van and then showed them what it looked like in
the display of the digital camera. I wondered if they have ever seen a
picture of them selves let a lone a modern camera. The kids seemed amazed at
seeing themselves. I was glad I could show them their picture. I just hope
they don’t have to live their entire life in this poverty. |
